Job Summary
The Community Mobilizer plays a key role in engaging communities in Al Khukhah district to ensure successful implementation of WASH projects. The role involves promoting hygiene awareness, fostering participation in WASH-related activities, and ensuring long-term sustainability through inclusive community involvement. The Community Mobilizer reports directly to the Project Coordinator.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
1. Community Engagement:
• Ensure establishment of water management committee per each sub-district for the project sustainability and proper operation & maintenance of infrastructure ensuring that women’s representation is considered.
• Conduct awareness community meetings at the beginning of the project in the targeted communities.
• Support house-to-house hygiene promotion, focus group discussions, and mass awareness events.
• Promote the project’s objectives and activities to community members through various communication channels.
• Conduct regular community meetings to assess needs and gather feedback on WASH services.
• Propose solutions to the community problems encountered in the various phases of the project.
• Mobilize community members for the district/sub-district -level WASH Programme activities and assist the communities in preparation.
• Prepare, coordinate, and organize training sessions for members of the Water and Sanitation Committee in collaboration with the project engineer and project coordinator.
• Mobilize community members for WASH activities including hygiene kit distribution, awareness campaigns, house-to-house visits, and community events.
• Enable effective relation with the affected / targeted community to allow the organization to be held to account for the quality of WASH project.
• Facilitate and conduct community level participatory hazard vulnerability, community action plans, capacity assessments and WASH assessments.
• Prepare and submit narrative weekly, monthly, quarterly, and other reports on the WASH activities including training and community mobilization.
• Conduct monthly meetings with community promoters and influencers to discuss all relevant issues and develop a plan for the upcoming period.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with community leaders, local organizations, and relevant stakeholders.
• Mobilize and engage community members to actively participate in project activities, such as training sessions, workshops, and events.
• Provide regular updates and reports on community mobilization activities, progress, and challenges to the project team.
• Prepare and submit activity reports as required.
• Adapt methodologies and health education approaches to suit the target audience, ensuring messages are engaging and culturally appropriate.
2. Awareness Campaigns:
• Organize and facilitate awareness campaigns on cholera prevention, hygiene practices, and rational water use.
• Collaborate with hygiene promoters to implement community-level hygiene education.
3. Training and Capacity Building:
• Identify, train, and support members of Water Management Committees (WMC) and other community volunteers.
• Provide trainings focused on project management, operation, and maintenance to ensure sustainability of WASH interventions.
4. Project Implementation Support:
• Assist in supervision the rehabilitation of water systems
• Support the project team in assessing districts and communities for effective WASH interventions.
5. Problem Solving:
• Propose solutions to challenges faced during project implementation in collaboration with the community and local authorities in coordination with the project engineer and project coordinator.
6. Collaboration with Stakeholders:
• Work closely with community leaders, local organizations, and district officials to enhance project effectiveness.
• Facilitate discussion between the organization and the community to ensure accountability and responsiveness to community needs.
Others:
• Support community awareness and mobilization for all project activities, in coordination with other mobilizers.
• Assist the M&E team in receiving and verifying the complaints and reporting the results to the project Coordinator and the M&E assistant and assisting them in making the appropriate decision to solve the raised issues.
• Collaborate with the MEAL Officer to analyze data from required assessments.
• Responsible for monitoring the impact of the project, supporting decision-making, and promoting learning through documentation of best practices and follow-up of necessary adjustments at the district level.
• Prepare high-quality weekly & monthly progress reports, and daily delivery & distribution reports and submit them to the project Coordinator.
• Provide necessary guidance to the field team and ensures that everyone on the team is aware of their assigned duties, the distribution mechanism, the project regulations and VHI policies.
• Carry out any other tasks assigned by project management.
Requirements (Qualification and Experience)
Required Professional Experience
• Minimum 2 years of experience in community mobilization or relevant field is required.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to propose appropriate solutions to identified community needs.
• Energetic and proactive, with the ability to motivate and guide team members..
• Preference to be given to the residents of the targeted district.
Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification
• Diploma or degree in Social Sciences or a related field is preferred.
Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications
• Strong team collaboration and communication skills.
• Knowledge of local community context and culture.
• Skilled in data collection and reporting.
• Able to engage with stakeholders and local authorities.
• Committed to humanitarian principles.
• Works independently in challenging environments.
• Familiar with tools like KOBO and ODK.
• Proactive and solution-oriented.
